Jordan Cabinet approves several new decisions

The Jordanian cabinet has approved the amendment to the system for examining medicines, medical supplies, sterilizers, disinfectants, and cosmetics for 2022. With the introduction of the system, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) aims to streamline the registration of medicines, especially those produced in Jordan and intended for export.

A change to the licensing system for pharmaceuticals and the fees collected from them was also approved by the Cabinet. As a result of this amendment, a licensing committee for pharmaceuticals will be set up. The committee will specify the requirements related to a company’s location, distance from residential areas, sources of pollution, and groundwater sources.

A system for the recognition of higher education institutions outside Jordan and the equivalency of their certificates was endorsed by the Cabinet in 2022. A reconstituted committee for evaluating non-Jordanian certificates will be headed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the Secretary-General of the Ministry as deputy chairman.

Additionally, the body approved the ministry’s administrative organization for 2022, which would enable the ministry to realize its strategic goals, which would be the driving force behind the organization. Jordan’s Cabinet has agreed to move forward with the creation of a Jordanian national laboratory for human genome research and personalized medicine in cooperation with Harvard University.

The Cabinet also approved the national waste management plan for 2022-2026, which aims to limit the spread of waste and the indiscriminate dumping of waste by developing regulatory legislation and a general framework. Additionally, the plan aims to increase awareness about the need to reduce indiscriminate dumping of waste, improve its management system, establish the appropriate infrastructure, implement hierarchical waste management, and regulate this sector.
