The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply in Jordan assured the citizens of the availability of food stocks, price stability, and the successful implementation of government policies that ensure the preservation and enhancement of stocks along with the continuous monitoring of markets.
According to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Mr. Youssef Shamali, the strategic stock of foodstuffs is sufficient for both local and imported items. This is particularly since the ministry is working with both the commercial and industrial sectors to maintain the stock and keep it within safe limits.
The stocks of wheat and barley are sufficient for domestic consumption for roughly 15 months and 11 months respectively, according to Shamali. In addition, he pointed out that wheat imports from Romania accounted for about 90 percent of the contracted quantities last year.
According to Shamali, other commodities have comfortable levels of reserves as well. There is continuous coordination with the commercial and industrial sectors to support them. He noted that the government had previously taken several measures to facilitate and speed up the clearance of food commodities and reduce import costs
